A powerful new family collaboration brings together legendary Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser with his sons Galen and Cameron Fraser and Galen’s Castilian wife, María San Miguel. Rooted in the traditional Scottish repertoire that has shaped Alasdair’s musical life, as well as a deep association with the Iberian peninsula, the quartet expands outward into a vibrant, contemporary sound world , combining the diverse musical explorations of all members of this exciting new band. With generations of musical influence, family chemistry and a shared instinct for adventure, the group brings fresh energy to old traditions—moving effortlessly between fiery dance tunes, lyrical airs, original compositions and unexpected musical journeys. It is music grounded in heritage, alive in the present, and propelled by the sheer joy of playing together.

Alasdair Fraser is an internationally renowned Scottish fiddler, composer, teacher, and cultural ambassador based in Nevada County, California. For more than four decades, he has championed the expressive traditions of Scottish fiddle music while expanding its possibilities through performance, composition, recording, and education. Fraser is founder and director of the Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School and Sierra Fiddle Camp, and has inspired generations of musicians worldwide. A dedicated community builder and mentor, he brings traditional music into contemporary settings, fostering connection across cultures and generations. His work celebrates music as a living, shared language of place and belonging.
San Miguel Fraser

San Miguel Fraser is redefining folk music with their dynamic fusion of Castilian and Celtic traditions. The duo, featuring María San Miguel—an Oviedo Conservatory graduate deeply rooted in the vibrant music of Castile—and Galen Fraser—a Berklee College of Music alumnus and son of the legendary fiddler Alasdair Fraser, blends heartfelt vocals, intricate string arrangements, and the lively charm of the cittern. Their music celebrates the shared spirit of their homelands while embracing the beauty of innovation.

Cameron Fraser has a deep love for traditional music and a knack for making tunes groove. Raised in a lively musical household, he was immersed in Scottish and Celtic traditions from an early age. He’s spent countless nights in Glasgow sessions, where he honed his rhythmic drive and melodic style.

For Alasdair Fraser, Scottish music has never been a destination—it has been the beginning of a journey.
From his early years as a traditional fiddler and violinist in Scotland, Fraser has spent a lifetime exploring the extraordinary range and adaptability of the music he inherited. With pianist Paul Machlis, he uncovered older Scottish repertoire and gave it new harmonic and rhythmic dimensions. With the groundbreaking six-piece band Skyedance, he stretched the tradition into bold new territory through original composition and a powerful contemporary ensemble sound.
His musical path has continually changed shape: the intricate conversation of fiddle and guitar with Jody Stecher and Tony McManus; explorations of eighteenth-century Scottish music with Muriel Johnstone and Barbara MacDonald Magone; and a long and celebrated partnership with cellist Natalie Haas that transformed the historic fiddle-and-cello relationship into one of the most distinctive sounds in contemporary Scottish music.
Now that journey takes another turn—and comes home to family.
Joining Alasdair are his son Galen Fraser, Galen’s wife María San Miguel, and his son Cameron Fraser. Galen and María bring the adventurous musical world of the San Miguel Fraser duo, where Scottish and Spanish traditions meet original composition, improvisation and contemporary influences. Cameron’s guitar brings its own rhythmic drive, harmonic color and distinctive voice.
Together, they create music that spans generations and musical worlds, combining traditional repertoire, original compositions, Scottish and Spanish influences, and the individual voices of four musicians. It is a sound rooted in Scotland but never confined by it—a celebration of inheritance, family, curiosity and the continuing adventure of making tradition new.
